Frequently Asked Questions

What is Medicare, and who is eligible?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program primarily for individuals aged 65 and older and some younger people with disabilities or specific medical conditions. It has four parts: Part A (hospital insurance), Part B (medical insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage plans), and Part D (prescription drug coverage).

What is the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)?

The AEP runs from October 15–December 7 each year. During this period, individuals can enroll in, change, or drop their Medicare coverage for the following year.

What changes can I make during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)?

During AEP, you can:

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or vice versa).
  • Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another.
  • Enroll in, change, or drop a Medicare Part D (prescription drug) plan.
What happens if I miss the AEP deadline?

If you miss the December 7 deadline, you will likely need to wait until the following AEP unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), which can occur due to specific life events like moving or losing other insurance.
